Acts of 10th European Assembly of Lay Dominican Fraternities
On Wednesday the 4th of October, the feast of St. Francis, all the delegates of the 10th Assembly of European Lay Dominican Fraternities arrived at the hotel of the Domincan Sisters: the Casa das Irmãs Dominicanas in Fatima. In the Portuguese sun it was 30°C – a beautiful day. So it was a warm welcome in every way!
The participants were welcomed by the council members Leny Beemer – De Vos, Eva Zudorova, Aksel Misje, Olga Rozhnikova and Arnaud Kientz. Of course Brother Rui Lopes, the Promoter General for laity was also there. “Lay Dominicans – Preachers of hope” is the theme of this Assembly, which is held every four years. Some of the delegates knew each other already from previous Assemblies and some became acquainted with their European brothers and sisters for the first time.
This day everybody was free. Those who arrived early went already to the sanctuary and were very impressed by it. Before the Vespers we prayed the Rosary with the Joyful Mysteries in the chapel. The delegates of The Netherlands and Bohemia had some travel difficulties, but finally they also arrived at the hotel and had a warm welcome.
