Dear brothers and sisters in St Dominic,
Our Caleruega Assembly is slowly approaching and it is essential for all European Dominican provinces and vicariates to be represented at the Assembly so that together we can develop a common voice that truly represents the whole of Europe, not just a part of it.
In principle, the travel costs and registration fee of each delegate to the Assembly are covered by lay Dominican provincial/vicarial councils. However, there are provinces or vicariates for which this is not financially possible and their delegates cannot afford to cover these costs out of their personal budget, or only in a small part. This is especially the case for Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania.
Another disadvantage for them this year is that the geographical distance between Madrid and St Petersburg, Kiev or Vilnius is bigger for them than for any other delegate in Europe and hence their travel costs are also much higher.
Please let’s join forces to help them attend the European Assembly in Caleruega. The ECLDF suggests that provinces and vicariates, in addition to paying the registration fees for their delegates, pay a solidarity amount of 50 or 100 euros (which approximately corresponds to the costs of “half a day” or “a day” in Caleruega). Other amounts are naturally welcome.
We know that for none of us it is easy to give money, especially today in times of recession, but hopefully, little by little, we’ll be able to get the money together so that our brothers and sisters from poorer Eastern European countries could join the other delegates in Caleruega, enabling us to have a truly representative Assembly that gives a “complete” picture of Europe.
