REPORT ON THE LAY PREACHING WEBSITE
1- In 2010 the European Council of Lay Dominican Fraternities (ECLDF) met twice: first inSzczecin, in the north of Poland, from 15 to 18 April, then in Caleruega, Spain, from 11 to 14 November.
2- As the ECLDF treasurer, Anja Andersen, informed the ECLDF that she wished to resign from the Council, Małgorzata Mazur, from the Polish province, who wasthe nominee that received the next highest number of votes at the Slovakia Assembly, was asked by the Council to join the ECLDF. She accepted. She was then subsequently electedin Szczecin in April as the new ECLDF treasurer (m.mazur7@upcpoczta.pl).
3- In Szczecin, the ECLDF submitted a petition for the General Chapter to be held in Rome in September 2010. It concerned the representation of lay Dominicans invited at GeneralChapters. The ECLDF suggested to the Master of the Order to consult lay Dominican councils representing the various regions of the world in order to ask them to propose a number of people from whom the Master of the Order could choose the lay Dominicans tobe invited at General Chapters.
4- The preparations for the next European Assembly of lay Dominican fraternities were among the main issues dealt with by the ECLDF in 2010. The official invitation to European provinces and vicariates to attend the next Assembly is annexed to this press release.
5- As we informed you last year, the next European Assembly of Lay Dominican Fraternities,which will be the eighth of its kind, will take place in Caleruega from 26 to 31 May 2011 with the support of the three Spanish provinces and vicariate. The theme is: “Today’s LayDominicans drawing from the well of Saint Dominic”.
Practical information about the Assembly, including registration fees and the programme, will be sent to you within the next few weeks.
6- Financial issues were also a focal point of both ECLDF meetings in 2010. The Council urgently appeals to those provinces and vicariates which have not yet paid their annual contributions in 2009 and 2010 (1.5 euros per member) to settle the matter. This would also help reduce the delegates’ registration fees at the next Assembly.
7- The ECLDF has been working on establishing a European lay Dominican Directory but information is still missing from quite a few provinces and vicariates. The Council urgesthose concerned to send the relevant information as soon as possible to the ECLDF President or Communication officer.
8- The preaching website, Laicatus Praedicans, which was launched last October, has experienced a whole series of practical and technical problems. It will be necessary, inparticular, to change the website address. You will receive information on this subject assoon as these problems have been solved. Thank you for your understanding.
