A meeting of the Dominican Family in Europe
My dear brothers and sisters,
Recently there was a meeting of the Internátional Commission of the Dominican Family (Bologna no 149), which consists of fr Yvon Pomerleau (Promoter General of the Dominican Family), fr Manuel Merten (Promoter General of the nuns), fr Jerry Stookey (Promoter General of the Laity), Sister Margaret Ormond (Co-ordinator of Dominican Sisters International) and myself, to review our implementation of the tasks given to us by the General Chapter of the friars at Bologna.
One of these tasks is “to organise periodical regional and international meetings for representatives and members of the branches of the Dominican Family” (no. 150). At the General Assembly of the Dominican Family in Manila it was apparent that there was a need for such a regional meeting in Europe.
In response to this need, the European delegates to the Assembly in Manila choose a committee from among themselves and asked them to organise a meeting of the Dominican Family in Europe for 2002. The members of this committee are Sister Josefa Tereszie (Nun from the Czech Republic), Sister Anne Catherine Meyer (Nun from France), fr Daniel-Philippe Picard ( Friar from France), fr Martin McEntee (Friar from Ireland), Sister Collette Kane (Sister from Ireland), Sister Karolina Mordaka (Sister from Poland), Ms Agnés Cassalengua (Secular Institute from France), Ms Geraldine Flanagan (Lay Dominican from Ireland), Mr Jouni Elomaa (Lay Dominican from Finland), and Ms Lara Anthony De Sena (IDYM from Spain).
The International Commission of the Dominican Family is happy to offer its full support to this committee, which has been inspired by the experience of Manila and which is eager to accept this responsibility. We hope that you too will offer it your full support.
Your brother in St Dominic
fr Timothy Radcliffe
